If you've started paying attention to what's in your clothes, you've probably come across two names more than any others: organic cotton and bamboo. Both are marketed as sustainable. Both feel noticeably better than standard cotton. But they're very different fabrics — and knowing which one suits you best can make a real difference to how you dress.
At LEBASQ, we work with both. Our Steve's Crew and James' V Neck ranges use 100% GOTS certified organic cotton. Our Charlie's Crew and Duke's V Neck ranges use bamboo. Here's an honest breakdown of both.
What is Organic Cotton?
Organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, using farming methods that maintain soil health and reduce water usage. The key certification to look for is GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) — the most rigorous standard in the industry, covering the entire supply chain from farm to finished garment.
GOTS certified organic cotton means no harmful chemicals at any stage of production. Better for farmers. Better for the environment. Better for your skin.
What it feels like: Familiar. It has the natural breathability of the cotton you know, but noticeably better quality — without chemical residues that can irritate sensitive skin.
What is Bamboo Fabric?
Bamboo fabric is made from bamboo pulp processed into fibres. The most common type is bamboo viscose (also called bamboo rayon). A higher quality version is bamboo lyocell, produced in a closed-loop process that recaptures water and solvents — significantly more sustainable.
Bamboo grows fast, requires no pesticides, and uses far less water than cotton. The resulting fabric is naturally antibacterial, moisture-wicking, and has a silky-smooth drape unlike cotton.
What it feels like: Softer and smoother than cotton, with a subtle sheen. Many men describe it as feeling like a premium material rather than a basic tee.
Key Differences
Softness: Bamboo tends to feel slightly softer and silkier. Organic cotton feels more familiar and natural.
Breathability: Both are highly breathable. Bamboo's moisture-wicking properties give it an edge in warmer weather.
Sustainability: GOTS-certified organic cotton has the most transparent and verifiable supply chain. Bamboo can be very sustainable — the processing method matters.
Fit: Organic cotton holds its structure better, ideal for fitted styles. Bamboo has more drape, working beautifully in relaxed or slim fits.
Durability: Both last well. Wash at low temperatures and air dry where possible.
Which Should You Choose?
For the most transparent sustainability credentials and a familiar feel: go organic cotton. LEBASQ's Steve's Crew and James' V Neck are made for exactly this.
For the softest, most premium-feeling tee with a different drape: try bamboo. LEBASQ's Charlie and Duke bamboo range is a great starting point.
There's no wrong answer. Both are a genuine step up from conventional cotton — and both are built to last.
