Care & Washing Guide

Care & Washing Guide

Your LEBASQ garments are crafted from premium materials designed to last for years. Proper care ensures they maintain their quality, fit, and comfort wash after wash. Follow this comprehensive guide to get the most out of your investment.

General Care Guidelines

Regardless of the specific fabric, these universal principles apply to all LEBASQ products:

  • Read the care label: Always check the specific care instructions on each garment
  • Wash less frequently: Quality fabrics don't need washing after every wear
  • Spot clean when possible: Address small stains without a full wash
  • Store properly: Fold t-shirts rather than hanging to prevent shoulder stretching
  • Rotate your wardrobe: Give garments time to rest between wears

Washing Instructions by Fabric Type

  • Cycle: Normal or gentle cycle
  • Drying: Air dry flat or tumble dry on low heat
  • Ironing: Medium heat if needed, iron inside out
  • Special notes: GOTS certified organic cotton maintains its softness and doesn't require fabric softener

Bamboo Blend (68% Bamboo, 28% Organic Cotton, 4% Elastane)

Products: Duke's V Neck, Charlie's Crew

  • Temperature: Wash in cold water (30°C/86°F maximum)

  • Cycle: Gentle or delicate cycle

Step-by-Step Washing Process

1. Preparation

  • Turn garments inside out to protect the outer surface and any prints
  • Separate colors: whites, lights, and darks
  • Close any zippers or buttons
  • Check pockets and remove any items
  • Treat stains before washing (see stain removal section below)

2. Loading the Machine

  • Don't overload—garments need room to move freely
  • Place delicate items in a mesh laundry bag for extra protection
  • Wash similar fabrics together when possible

3. Detergent Selection

  • Use the recommended amount—more isn't better
  • Choose eco-friendly, biodegradable detergents when possible
  • Avoid detergents with optical brighteners for organic fabrics
  • Skip fabric softener—it can coat fibers and reduce breathability

4. Washing

  • Select cold water for most items
  • Use gentle or normal cycle as appropriate
  • Add an extra rinse cycle if you have sensitive skin

5. Drying

  • Air drying (recommended): Lay flat on a clean towel or drying rack, reshape while damp
  • Tumble drying: Use low heat only, remove while slightly damp to prevent over-drying
  • Avoid direct sunlight for colored garments to prevent fading
  • Never wring or twist wet garments

Stain Removal Guide

General Stain Treatment

  • Act quickly—fresh stains are easier to remove
  • Blot, don't rub—rubbing can spread the stain and damage fibers
  • Test any treatment on an inconspicuous area first
  • Work from the outside of the stain toward the center

Common Stains

Coffee/Tea: Rinse with cold water immediately, then apply a mixture of water and white vinegar. Wash as normal.

Oil/Grease: Apply a small amount of dish soap directly to the stain, gently work it in, let sit for 5-10 minutes, then wash.

Wine: Blot immediately, sprinkle with salt to absorb, rinse with cold water, then wash.

Sweat: Pre-soak in cold water with a tablespoon of white vinegar for 30 minutes before washing.

Deodorant marks: Rub gently with a damp cloth or use a mixture of water and white vinegar.

Storage Tips

  • Fold, don't hang: T-shirts should be folded to prevent shoulder stretching and maintain shape
  • Use drawer dividers: Keep items organized and easy to access
  • Avoid overcrowding: Allow air circulation to prevent musty odors
  • Store in a cool, dry place: Away from direct sunlight
  • Use cedar blocks: Natural moth deterrent without harsh chemicals
  • Seasonal rotation: Store off-season items in breathable cotton bags

Extending Garment Life

Wear Practices

  • Wear an undershirt to reduce direct contact with skin oils and sweat
  • Remove jewelry that might snag fabric
  • Apply deodorant and let it dry before dressing
  • Avoid wearing the same garment two days in a row

Maintenance

  • Address small issues immediately (loose threads, minor stains)
  • Trim pilling with a fabric shaver or sweater stone
  • Refresh between wears by airing out garments
  • Steam instead of ironing when possible to reduce wear

What to Avoid

  • Hot water: Causes shrinkage and fading
  • Bleach: Damages fibers and causes yellowing on whites
  • Fabric softener: Coats fibers, reduces breathability and moisture-wicking properties
  • High heat drying: Causes shrinkage and damages elastane
  • Dry cleaning: Unnecessary for t-shirts and can be harsh on natural fibers
  • Wringing: Stretches and damages fabric structure
  • Hanging wet garments: Causes stretching, especially in the shoulders

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Shrinkage

Prevention: Wash in cold water, air dry or use low heat
If it happens: Gently stretch the garment while damp and lay flat to dry

Fading

Prevention: Wash inside out in cold water, avoid direct sunlight when drying
If it happens: Unfortunately, fading is difficult to reverse. Focus on prevention for remaining garments.

Pilling

Prevention: Wash inside out, avoid washing with rough fabrics like denim
If it happens: Use a fabric shaver or sweater stone to gently remove pills

Stretched Neckline

Prevention: Don't pull garments over your head by the neckline, fold instead of hanging
If it happens: Dampen the neckline, reshape, and lay flat to dry

Yellowing (White Garments)

Prevention: Avoid bleach, use cold water, don't over-dry
If it happens: Soak in a mixture of water and oxygen-based bleach (not chlorine bleach)

Environmental Considerations

Caring for your garments sustainably extends their environmental benefits:

  • Wash full loads: Saves water and energy
  • Use cold water: Reduces energy consumption by up to 90%
  • Air dry when possible: Eliminates dryer energy use
  • Choose eco-friendly detergents: Better for waterways and the environment
  • Wash less frequently: Saves water and extends garment life
  • Repair instead of replace: Reduces textile waste
